was asked about this earlier today and while he did not mention donald trump by name he did criticise him in a way, he said you need to look at the results from last week to see that i am a leader who gets things done. when he was making his announcement there were a lot of cars beeping their horns and a lot of trump supporters still here but we have seen signs in people's yards but say one desantis as well. it will be interesting to see if there is any response from the centres, if he announces he will run. i think that is something that republicans would certainly like to see. they see ron desantis as the future of the republican party. but donald trump is still quite popular and as we saw from that speech tonight he believes he is still the man to lead the republicans into 2024. thank ou ve republicans into 2024. thank

we have that 50% of the electorate on the republican side that is open to a new face, certainly there is a lot of attention as your correspondent said towards one desantis and we're starting to see some early polling numbers on that race suggesting that one desantis would be the favourite at this point. you mention the popularity of donald trump with republican base. what about the niche group of senior republicans, those in congress and centre —— senate to hold a lot power over the party? it is interesting that you say they hold a lot of the power but, it'll be interesting to see what kevin mccarthy does this week. does he not want to come out and be aggressive and putting blame towards the president because he thinks he needs the support to be speaker in a few months? john mchenry,
